Can someone explain Beethoven to me?

Like, what does "5th symphony" or "Opus 27" mean?

Can someone explain Beethoven to me?performing arts center

Usually, a number designation like Fifth Symphony, Third Concerto or Twelfth Sonata is used to designate the order in which the pieces were composed relative to other pieces in that genre by the same composer. However, Beethoven (like many other composers) didn't always publish everything in the order that he wrote them in. The second piano concerto was actually written before the first, but published later; hence the title. It wouldn't do for the publisher to put out Beethoven's Second Concerto before there had been a first.

Usually, an Opus number is more helpful chronologically. Opus is latin for 'work' or, in the context of music, 'composition'. So it simply means composition number___. Some composers publish things out of the order they composed them in, but still assign opus numbers according to date. However, Beethoven assigned opus numbers in order of publication, which actually makes cataloguing his works much easier on paper. Unfortunately, I can't think of an example of somewhere a composer gave an opus lower opus number to a piece published later, but I can say that if Beethoven had assigned opuses according to composition date, the First Concerto (opus 15) would have a higher opus number than the Second (opus 19).

Not all composers used opus numbers, it is by no means something expected of a composer, but many of the notable ones did (Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Chopin, Dvorak, Grieg, Holst, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Prokofiev, Khachaturian). Great composers like Bach, Mahler, Mozart, Debussy, Vaughan Williams, Liszt and Ravel all did not use opus numbers, but in many cases someone has come and catalogued their works (Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis for Bach, K?chel-Verzeichnis for Mozart, Searle number for Liszt, Lesure number for Debussy).

As someone else mentioned, Opus can also refer to a group of works which are published together. For example, Beethoven's Opus 31 encompasses the 16th and 17th piano sonatas; Opus 27 includes the 13th and 14th.

Actually, now that I think harder, I believe there was some incongruency in the catalogue of Dvorak's works, as an example. The complete works were catalogued by a man named Burghauser, and Opus numbers were only assigned to a limited number of those. So in a complete catalogue, pieces will be arranged by 'B.' and some of the opus numbers will be out of order, such as how the Fifth symphony is Opus 76, while the Sixth is Opus 60.

you can search that up in wiki.answers.com, google.com, yahoo.com, ask.com, search.com, or wikipedia.com
The 5th Symphony was the fifth symphony that Beethoven wrote. Some of his symphonies have names such as the Choral (9th) and the Pastoral (6th).

Opus means the number of a group of works. See the link below for more information.
Beethoven wrote 9 symphonies - the fifth one was "The Fifth". Usually composers symphonies are numbered in order. Haydn for example wrote 104!

Most famous composer's works are catalogued and assigned as "opus" number. Opus is simply latin for "work." The compilers of these catalogues attempt to number the works in order that they were composed. Some composers have catalogues that are named according to the name of the guy who compiled the catalogue, Mozart for example, has a "K" or Kochel number for his works (from 1 to 626).
Opus 27, strictly speaking, means that it was the 27th thing Beethoven wrote. Because Beethoven was very organised, his opus numbers are usually in order. Other composers, who were not as organised, sometimes have their opus numbers out of sequence. Beethoven does have the occasional out-of-sequence work, such as his 2nd piano concerto, which was written first. It is known as his 2nd because he had it published and performed after he wrote what is known as his 1st.

'5th symphony' does indeed mean the fifth symphony he wrote. A symphony is a large work for orchestra, in three, four or sometimes five sections, called movements. The most famous movement of the fifth is the first movement. A symphony is different from other works for orchestra, such as a concerto, because there is no one 'main' instrument. Sometimes the instruments have solo sections but there is no overriding important instrument.

Does a relationship that has a musician and a non-musician have a good chance of survivng?

My boyfriend is in graduate school and he is majoring in percussion. His previous girlfriend was a french horn player. I on the other hand do not play any instruments, and I don't really enjoy the music that he does. I still attend the symphony concerts he plays in but I'm bored the whole time, I respect the music but its just not for me. Any ways, do you think that thsi can cause us to break up? He wants to be a professor at a college and i have a feeling hes going to end up falling for some music playing student. Am i being paranoid or is this too big of a difference for us to overcome? I understand that people on this website can't be certain about a complete stranger's relationship, id just like to see other peoples opinions on the matter, thanks!

I was musically inclined and married a girl who couldn't carry a note in a bucket. Problem was, I was always hanging with people with whom I shared a common interest in music.

That led to me falling for a young lady I felt was much more compatible with me. I didn't cheat or see her alone but it was one of the things that led to my marriage's eventual meltdown. We are now divorced.

Musicians are in a class of their own as are all artists. Careful going further with your boyfriend.

What are the prettiest pieces of music writtn for flute?

Preferably classical but they can be from movie scores too. Either orchestral with flute solos (such as a solo within a symphony) or concertos, or even simply flute solos.

Debussy - Afternoon of a Faun - the flute solo is considered the most beautiful flute passage ever composed

C.T. Griffes - Poeme - A piece for virtuoso flute that impressionistic. Sensitive, graceful and emotional

Mozart - Concerto for flute, harp and orchestra - one of the most popular flute pieces ever composed. An audience favorite every where. First composition to feature harp.

Bach - 2nd movement of the 5th Brandenburg Concerto - a trio between flute, violin and continuo. The flute line is absolutely graceful, serene and beauty. Ethereal and glorious

Mozart - Flute Concerto - lush, pure beauty and grace

Pachelbel's Canon (Canon in D) or Angel Eyes..

angel eyes is a jim brickman piano piece, but if you could find flute music for it i imagine it would be incredibly beautiful. good luck :)
You can consider Gluck's Dance of the blessed spirit and Largo from Concerto for flute and strings by J.S. Bach. Both are calming and relaxing.

Besides that, Badinerie from Orchestral Suite No.2(J.S. Bach), Gavotte by Francois-Joseph Gossec and Dance of the reed flutes by Tchaikovsky are fast and catchy. It makes the flute sound so lively and gay.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Vivaldi "Bullfinch" concerto.

It gets its name from the bird imitation in the first movement.

If I recall correctly, the slow movement is the celebrated Vivaldi Pastorale.

A few of my favorite flute solos are:

--Siciliano from Faure's Pelleas et Melisande.

--prelude to Act III from Carmen

--slow movement from the Tschaikovsky piano concerto
-Erik Satie's Trois (3) Gymnop茅dies!

He will probably do what I did....read the first line and then forget it. That's just too much. And do you really want to say he is "kissables"? That in itself would make me not read it.

Bissel Mansion Mystery Dinner Theatre in St. Louis??

Our high school orchestra chose to takie the annual trip down to St. Louis to see the symphony and have fun. Our director got a reservation at the Bissel Mansion Mystery Dinner Theatre for a fun thing to do while we're down there.

Has anybody been there before? Is it fun? What do they do? Any recommendations food-wise??

Thanks in advance!

My husband and I have been there. You have several options on the menu. My husband is a red meat kind of guy and I usually choose chicken or fish. Both of our meals were surprisingly good. We got a lot of laughs and had fun. We were both picked to take parts in the production and being the hams that we are we had a great time. The entertainment went on while we were eating. The murder mystery plots change all the time and can be a little corney but cute. People from the audience will be asked to participate but you can decline if you arent comfortable with that. We have also gone to the dinner theater at the Lemp Mansion and enjoyed it. If you go there with the attitude that you are getting a good meal (not gourmet) and want to participate and have a lot of laughs you will have a great evening.

I heard from an organist at the San Fransisco Symphony. BUT IT HAS TO BE BOGUS!!

It sounds so good for organ. Imagine violins doing it. :D

Was bachs Toccata and Fuege in D Minor origanaly composed for violin?!?!?!?opera mobile

Surprisingly, it was written originally for the organ. Obviously, it was rewritten for orchestral playing and concerto, and therefore for violin, but originally was written for the organ.

Totally unrelated fun fact: did you know it is not actually in Dorian mode? Though the key signature suggests as much, when analyzed it is actually in D minor (hence the title). It was a common style in the Baroque period to exclude the actual key from the signature, and make alterations in the actual music. Weird, huh?

Was bachs Toccata and Fuege in D Minor origanaly composed for violin?!?!?!?imax theatre opera theater

I believe it was originally written for the harpsichord.
Bach was a baroque composer who primarily composed for the (pipe) organ due to his relationship with St. Thomas's Church in Lepzig, Germany,.

Johann Sebastian Bach (pronounced [jo?han/?jo?han ze?bastjan ?bax]) (March 21, 1685 O.S. 鈥?July 28, 1750 N.S.) was a prolific German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France.

As for violins, I prefer Pachebel's "Canon in D Major"...

They are referring to their spouse or significant other. It generally is referring to the wife, as women are generally smaller in height than a man. But it could apply to any size man when spoken by their mate.

It can also apply to a child or a parents daughter or son. My father use to call me his little man. It is a term of endearment.

yes
hard to assume anything based on stereotypes - I mean this guy sounds like Felix Unger from the Odd Couple - who wasn't gay.. but pretty much seemed gay.

Spare yourself all this hypothesizing and just ask the guy..
sounds like a cultured man, I'm not sure what that has to do with being gay or not.
Those things don't necessarily make him gay, but they DEFINITELY explains why he doesn't have a girlfriend...
Sounds like a pretty cool person to me. Would it matter if he is gay?
There's no indication he likes guys.He could be shy.
No. I dated someone similar for years - he was a *dog* and definitely not gay.
Well first I would have to ask how and why you know so much about him and then ask if you were describing you in any way....but anyway as stereotypes go yes he does sound gay but I have known alot of guys who are exactly the same way and they are not gay. However gay guys are charming and normally very funny. I love the ones I know. Hope this helps...have a good day!!!
Would it matter if he was?
He isn't gay. He's very arts-oriented, but definitely not gay. Every gay man has a "trademark" thing that subtly clues you in if you look for it, and I don't see that trademark.

That's "The Mixed Tape" by Jack's Mannequin. Other good songs by them are "Holiday from Real", "Bruised", "I'm Ready", "La La Lie", and "Meet Me At My Window".
I think it's the group Sheriff from 1981 (a one hit wonder band)

Perfect Pitch Question?

I have perfect pitch. I never took formal musical lessons past 3rd grade, I can play the guitar, drums, piano (a little) and sing. My 2nd grade viola teacher told me I have perect pitch, my 3rd grade drum teacher told me I should not play drums because they will not be challenging enough and I should play classical symphony. my 6th grade chorus teacher made me headline the concert with a solo in front of the entire school. I have never persued music beyond goofing around with friends.

My question is this. Is perfect pitch rare and is it in any demand career wise? Can I and should I make money from this talent?

Perfect Pitch Question?amc theatre

Sure you could and should make money of it, but it requires a lot of work for a start. Because talent is only ten percent of success, the othe ninety percent is work!

Perfect Pitch Question?symphony opera theater

I've played the piano since I was six; I have known a grand total of three people in my life (I'm 51) with perfect pitch, so I'd say it's fairly rare. However, the innate ability counts for very little if it is not trained, and most exceptional musicians do not necessarily have perfect pitch, and don't particularly need it.

I believe there's only one good reason for pursuing music as a career - and that is because you love it. For most of us, it's unlikely we'll ever get rich (even the great composers of the past had to teach to put food on the table, as do many exceptional performers today). If you love music, performing is just the icing on the cake - it's the understanding of the music, and the need for it somewhere in your soul that makes a music career worthwhile.
It's great to have but nothing that is going to make you money unless you have exceptional, sellable talent in some other way. This only really helps YOU. Anything where pitch is at stake like tuning, pitch must be confirmed by metric means.
Perfect Pitch is a quality in 1/2000 people. You could make money from this for sure, but only if you want. It is an excellent skill, and I congratulate you for having it. Good Luck!
To make music from this ability, you could take musical dictation from musicians that want to write down their music but don't know how. If you learn to read and write music, you could listen to what they play, then write it down for them. It would actually be helpful to play the drums, as this would help you understand the rhythms you hear.

In life, it's better to find out what YOU want to do, than to go by what others think you should do.
I also have perfect pitch. You won't make money in any way that I know of. When I went through school, I was in one of the top piano classes in the world. About 3/4 of the students had perfect pitch too, and it wasn't a big deal. We used to sharpen our listening by having one person play 11 of the 12 pitches in an octave. We had to tell which was the missing pitch....However, some of the best musicians I know don't have it.

Do you love music? Go after it for that. Perfect pitch is just a nice add-on.

Try Saint-Saens 3rd Symphony (Organ Symphony)-4th mvt. and Liszt's Les Prelude Tone Poem. Almost any Romantic or Post-Romantic large work will have a grand ending. Also try the symphonies of Shostakovich (5th), Prokofiev, Sebelius, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Samuel Barber, etc.

Musician,composer,teacher.
The Grosse Fuge was originally a BIG ending for a Beethoven String Quartet before it was made a stand alone behemoth.

Also, the finale to Beethoven's 5, 7 and 9 symphonies are beyond comparison for scale and scope of drama.
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique

Strauss: Alpensymphonie

most of Puccini's opera Turandot is big. The quiet moments really stand out in contrast. Same goes for the 3rd Act finale to his opera "Madame Butterfly". ( the suicide music still gives me goosebumps)

What does this song mean, it seems spiritual?

Just one more night, one more score

Another question in my mind, can't take no more

Kissing the tears from my face

As they fall to the ground in the silence

In twilight and faded times, spirits cold, with no love

Bells ring the lonely chime

Candle fire

These lit dreams can't burn alone

Winds of change

Bring songs upon my memory

An empty heart and soul intoxicates me

This darkened page orchestrates my final destiny

Not knowing what

What tomorrow will bring

From within the mirror's eyes

I'm forced to run away and hide

I feel those mystic eyes subside and leave me blind

Through passages in time, a prisoner locked behind the door

Lonely roses slowly wither and die

I can't escape this captive misery

Heart stone cold, under supremacy

Thrown into a raging sea of tyranny

Life's vile walls have tangled me in webs

Eternally within my futures threads, play

The violent strings of my symphony

Transcend

The absence of this fantasy

Just another vision washed away with the tide

No place for forgotten ones

I cannot deny

What lies beyond

Beyond this fantasy

Music Lessons?

I am 14 and I was looking to earn some extra money over the summer teaching flute lessons. I have a pretty decent resume for my age: I started when I was 7, have been in youth symphony for 5 years, have won several competitions, etc. I was wondering what the best way to start a studio would be in terms of advertising and recruiting students. Also what should I charge? Any advice is appreciated.

Music Lessons?mr messed up

If you're 14... I think it would be better to simply have lessons at your home or at the student's home. Start small. Ask friends if they have siblings who want to learn flute. Put up some fliers around school. Put an ad in the newspaper if you want, but many people would be turned off by your age. I think you could charge $30/hour.

Music Lessons?getting late opera theater

Try having a studio simply in your living room. It's easily accessible for you, and your clients will probably feel more comfortable. Start advertisting at elementary schools and middle schools along with maybe at a local mall, but if you advertise publicly (newspaper, etc;) be careful of who you recruit. For a month of lessons (one lesson a week) I would charge about $35.

When you start out, scales are always helpful, but also play to your students strengths by helping them learn simple versions of songs they like.

Is it okay...?

to take my air horn to the symphony? Will they get mad?

Is it okay...?tickets

They only get mad if you're in the audience. You need to sneak backstage and hide in the wings. Blow the air horn from there and everyone will think it's just a fun new addition to the music.

Did you think I'm a dork?

I'm a sophomore at high school. I'm an all A student, Latin Club, Mu Alpha Theta(Math Honor Society), National Honor Society, Navy JROTC, and a cellist in the symphony orchestra. Does this qualify me as a dork? just wondering

Did you think I'm a dork?headache opera theaterwhy would you take into consideration something someone else thinks..you should be confident that your on your way to be successful in life.I have always been drawn to men who were smart and cultured and intelligent..I rather have brains than great looks without brains any day..are you kidding???? yes, except im smarter and a jock, so what does that qualify me as?
And this has absolutely nothing to do with a pregnancy..Reported :)
If I were still in high school, I would think you were a major dork. But as an adult I think it's great that you are getting the most out of High School and applying yourself.
first of all what does your question have to do with parenting and pregnancy obviously you are a dork and next time get it right!!
Nah...just well-rounded...
not really.. but if were in the beta club, science club and a whole bunch of smarty school subject clubs then yes for sure!!! iam also in the navy jrotc and the spanish club thats all though!!
or a nerd.
No, you are not a dork.
Actually, everyone is a dork because they are born with the same ability at birth. It is how u hon and harness this ability to be different from others. Being smart and active is good and dun let that negative thought (dork) pull u down. Understand the people around you, what makes them special and popular in school.

Piece of advice, dun act like them. Copying other people image will make u a dork. Good luck
no! atleast your preparing yourself for college
No i think(it sounds like) your a wonderful person!
Better to be a dork and smart

than

an idiot with your pants around your ankles.
It qualifies you as a geek at least. To be a dork, you have to have talents that nobody in your peer group values, like peeling bananas with your toes or doing tricks with a whip.
No,
no not at all.your fine.
no, not neccesarily, Many popular people are involed in nerdy clubs, at least a t my school.
Hey, whatever happened to nerd power?

As long as you don't ACT like a dork, it's okay. I mean, don't wear like suspenders and a pocket protector etc. And don't make people feel stupid on purpose. And don't rub in people's face if you know something they don't.

Example: At my school, one teacher was like: "Tell me a word to remember you by."

Guess what the nerd said.

Yeah, that would be, "Intellect!"

Portland, OR? Need advice from natives AND transplants!?

Hi, there. The husband and I are considering moving there (taking a vacation to see it in a few days). Did online research %26amp; checked census stats, but want the insiders' view. Currently we live in Florida ("Like hell, only hotter"). Please advise re:

1. Cost of living/housing (i.e. can you afford a house in non-cracktown, on an average salary?)

2. Traffic/avg commutes

3. Weather (do you like it?)

4. Is it pretentious, or are the people laid back?

5. Raising families- best places?

6. To-Do: Museums, music (yeah, it's the indy capital, but what about the symphony?), what do you do every weekend?

7. Is it already totally unaffordable b/c of influx of people from Seattle %26amp; CA?

8. Pros.

9. Cons.

10. Anything else you have to say about it (I'm very interested in the bad points, though - good things aren't usually something to worry about).

Thanks!!!!!

Western Oregon is great! If you don't mind the clouds.

Eastern Oregon is great, too! If you don't mind hot dry summers and freezing cold winters.

OK, that's the bad stuff... now the good stuff... Everything! Except the clouds on the west and hot sun/winter ice on the Eastern side.

Most of the people are well educated and you'll find all kinds! And you won't see as much wealth and poverty like Florida.

Jobs can be tough to find... your competition can be intense because of the good education system. Income taxes are high because there is no sales tax.

Lakes, rivers, beaches, smaller cities, ahhhh the good life... if it wasn't for the darn clouds.

You can find everything in Portland... it's very diverse. The Shakespeare Festival is in the South, Ashland, every year and the summers in Oregon are incredible! So are the winters if you like to snow shoe, ski, etc. You can also climb Mt. Hood if you have the energy and skill!

Oregon is great! Cost of living is going up fast... due to the influx of people, especially from California. A small home will now cost $250-$300K.

Did I mention the education system is good.

Check out all of the cities and towns, because they all seem to have their own different economy and lifestyle... and best wishes!

After 30 years or so... I moved to Florida. I like the warm rain and sunny, warm beaches... at least for now.

PS. Don't miss the 4th of July in Seaside, OR... it's great! Bring a blanket because it may not be warm.... at the beach.

we are getting really over populated from people across the country, so bad in fact it's hard to find someone actually born and raised here-I was born here and went to H.S. in Cali, but moved back here b/c I love it!!!

we have museums, opera, concerts, festivals for EVERY occasion, Saturday market, plays (went to see Wicked), etc. We have most of the luxuries as a major city without hassle. There's a fun Beverly Cleary park with statues of all her book characters.

we have the best public transportation system which makes it so you really wouldn't have to drive anywhere if you didn't want to. In fact I don't drive period!!

There really is so much to do here that it's crazy. I think that is because it does rain here and people don't like to stay at home.

The people are pretty laid back with the exception of the "pearl district" crowd, which is mainly people from California that think they're cool b/c they're from Cali~

Check out the Hawthorne, Brooklyn, Broadway and downtown areas, jump on the MAX and just take it from one end to another to see portland.

Go to Pioneer Courthouse Square and stand on the one brick in the square you can hear yourself echo when you talk. While you're at Pioneer Courthouse Square drop by the vistors center and talk to the nice people there. They have tons of info you can take back to FL. it's on the West side of the Square.

I still get amazed by this city, you find amazing things around every corner!!! Have fun
1. its a buyers market here right now trust me...

2. traffic is like other big citys it sucks on days that are work days like between 5-7pm and mornings and holidays

3. weather...well if u were to come right now u wouldnt like it...ive been to florida many many times. it dosnt rain nearly as much there as it does here. and its grey unlike florida.

4. you cant find more hippies ne were portland is just weird but thats y i love it!

5. best place for raising familys would probly be gresham or around the kids can still go places and ur still close to the city but not to close.

6. there is a symphony here we have many places to go see plays we have the art museum we have alot of stuff in downtown portland. yes looottttsss of music and diffrent types.

7. ....portland is like 4 hrs away from seatle and 8 hrs away from the boarder of cali. trust me we dont get alot of people that like to drive for that long.

8. awesome people, nice summers, i love it here.

9. bad things oi winters suck!!! rain almost everyday. ummm we have alot of homeless people downtown. uhhhhhh

10. i love it here even if it rains there still ways to get out of the rain...u should come visit but dont go see the turouisty stuff go see true oregon spend the weekend downtown.

go to the gorge its beautiful!!! go to northwest portland and go people watch thats where the craziest part is. we have everything here from low low low class to super upper class. it jsut depends on where u r...

again i love it here!!
Okay, if you are dead-set on Portland, read no further.

If not ..... Consider Eugene, just 100 miles south of Portland on I-5.

Eugene is smaller than Portland ... Total area population about 225,000 ... and has more of a small town feel to it, even though it has all the amenities of a large city. The cost of living is lower than Portland, and the commute is oh so much easier!

It is home of the University of Oregon, several other colleges, and a community college. There is a great sports program for kids, lots of outdoor and indoor activities, and a LOT of cultural events. There is a ballet, a fantastic concert hall (the Hult Center), a local symphony, several small theater groups, and an independent movie theater that shows hard to find movies (the Bjiou).

I lived in Oregon for 45 years, spending much time in both eugene and portland areas, and I would far prefer to live in or around Eugene. And its a short two hour drive up the freeway if you want to attend something in Portland.

Contray to what Cary said, if you live in other places in Oregon besides the cities, you can get a modest 1,500 ft home in a pleasant neighborhood for $150k. I recently sold a 1200 sq ft 3 bdrm 1 bath with large yard for $110k ... it was in good condition. That was in a small town near Eugene. Depends on where you look.

What are some good places to go sight seeing in San Antonio, TX?

I am doing an assignment where I have to make a travel itinerary for a doctor I'm supposedly working for. This doctor is attending a convention in San Antonio that starts on May 29 and ends on June 2. The conference starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. each day, except for June 2, when it starts at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. He will be arriving from Sarasota, FL on May 28 at about 6 p.m. and leaving on June 2 at 4 p.m.

This doctor's interests are:

-Sight seeing.

- Symphony and cultural events.

-Historical sites.

According to the instructions, he enjoys dinning at Italian restaurants and sushi bars, though he likes all types of food. I have everything besides this done. I just need to know some good places for him to go after he finishes with the conference.

Alamo, Riverwalk.
Alamo is OK...i was disappointed at the commercialism of it...its just OK....the river walk is good, take the boat ride offered , you will see some fantastic architecture and some really cool facts about San Antonio river. Listen to the pan flute music in the court yard riverwalk with a cocktail or coffee. And eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. If your staying in San Antonio, make sure you get a room over looking the Riverwalk and it has a balcony........sweet!
The River Walk is the first place to go as a historical site. Next, when in Texas, don't eat Italian... Go to a really good steak house and dine at night if the weather is warm with a good Cabernet.

When I was in Boy Scouts, there was a game to help us memorize Morse code, and V was supposed to be for "VIctory" and they used the dit dit dit DA of the 5th Symphony which was supposed to stand for "victory" as a memory tool. Morse may have done that on purpose, or maybe somebody else made it up just to help memorize the code. The only other part of the game I remember was dit- dit dit- dit dit dit- DA- DA DA- DA DA DA stood for "Estimo" which was supposed to be the name of a fictional American Indian.

sounds cool to me
What are you talking about? From what I can gather, it is just a weird coincidence.
I THINK YOU ARE LOOKING TOO DEEP INTO IT!!! WHY WOULD BEETHOVEN HAVE TO HIDE A CODE IN A SYMPHONY? WAS HE A GENERAL OR A ROMAN EMPEROR? NO. AND THE AUDIENCE AT HIS TIME WAS LIMITED TO THEATERS
I really doubt there is a conspiracy here, at least in regards to Morse code. Morse code was developed much later than when Beethoven composed his works, so unless Morse code was created around a work of Beethoven this conspiracy could not exist.
Morse Code was developed many years after Beethoven died. Samuel Morse may have loved this symphony and used ...- for V as a tribute to Beethoven or he might have thought, 'This could be a very subtle joke!' A good observation on your part. And thank you for writing a profile.
Beethoven lived 100 years earlier than Morse

have you been smoking anything illegal?

---- / -- / -----

HEY! why do I get a thumbs down? the guy is high!
The Morse code was invented years after Beethoven died. It's a good observation, though. It could be just a coincidence.
forget morse code, there are alot of codes in alot of things if you look deep enough into it. our whole universe is one big code
If that be the case, then it seems that many songs could be related to some sort of conspiracy theory. Think about it!!!

Am I odd to like artsy stuff?

I love going to see live classical music like the symphony or opera, or going to the theater to see a live play. I can never find people who like to do this stuff, so sometimes I just go myself. I actually had a girl laugh at me when I asked her out to the opera! Is it an age thing? (I'm 24) I dated a girl a couple years ago that liked it, but I broke up with her for other reasons...I didn't think she'd be that unique in this regard. Aren't there more girls out there with those interests?

Am I odd to like artsy stuff?events

Girls have limited time. They want to foster interests that will maximise their chances of finding "Mr Right". They will not become interested in the Fine Arts because they know that the chances of finding someone at such events is slim. Look around you at the next production of Aida you go to: How many other fit young blokes like you are there too? Probably none - the girls know this - and therefore don't develop an interest in these things. Suggest you try to find a middle ground: Amateur Dramatics and Local Operetta societies are packed with young women looking to meet men.

Yes there are women that like that stuff and i am one of them.
Maybe you should try asking out a guy. LoL. Come out of the closet, man!

THings to do at a boring party?

Speak in a strange foreign accent. when someone asks where you are from, name a country only you can pronounce.

Use a different accent every time you talk to someone new.

When getting food, pile everything onto your plate in heaping servings - make sure to use your hands!

Ask the host, "Who threw this cheesy party, anyway?"

Turn cartwheels across the floor. If you can turn a back flip, all the better!

Bring a novel and curl up in a corner with it.

Cough all over guests, then exclaim, "Doctor says a few more years and I'll be cured..."

Hang your head and whisper one-word answers to questions.

Play a lullaby on a kazoo during a speech (singing a lullaby works OK, too)

If there is music, mix up your dancing: break dance to classical, symphony conductor hand waves to techno music.

If you find your former dancing partner dancing with someone else, burst into tears, wailing "I thought you loved me!", and run from the room.

Is a conductor's work done mostly in rehearsal?

When I go to hear classical music, it seems to me that some of the members of the symphony pay more attention to the conductor than others. Definitely, the conductor seems to have a leadership role up there, but the musicians seem to be looking at and following their written music more than the conductor. I'm wondering if the musicians have internalized what the conductor wants from rehearsal and don't really need him or her as much for the Big Show? If a guest conductor comes in, it seems there would be limited rehearsal time (maybe a couple days?)... these musicians must be good! :-) (They don't call them pros for nothing!)

Is a conductor's work done mostly in rehearsal?getting late

It depends on the conductor. Each one has a different style and approach. It also depends on the kind of music: opera will demand nearly 90% in rehearsals because you have to put together and give your view-point to quite a number of people. Playing a Bruckner symphony of over 1 hr. in length with 120 players will require more than 3 by Mozart covering altogether the same lapse with 35 players. A conductor like Toscanini was extremely meticulous and demanding in rehearsals. Another like Maazel (curiously one of his pupils) gets to the performance with no more than 2-3 runs whatever the piece, assuming that he has to give his general view without having to check if he was undestood. Some conductors were real experts of most of the instruments like Boehm, some didn't care for details but only focused on the overall picture, and they did get there! (I'm saying Furtwaengler, nothing less). Some are people of wide culture like Claudio Abbado, some are pure raw talents like Celibidache. Some will have a gentle gesture like Klemperer, some will dance and jump like Bernstein. Some will shout like Veigh others will ask please like Ormandy. There is no single way to perfection.

Is a conductor's work done mostly in rehearsal?regal theater opera theater

To a certain extent, yes. However, a conductor's job is not complete until the performance is over. One thing you may not be aware of, is that many of those musicians who appear to be "not paying attention" to the conductor, are able to move just their eyes back and forth between their music and the conductor. That is why musicians in an orchestra are seated the way they are -- so that they can all SEE the conductor. In addition, peripheral vision plays a role here in that you can detect the movement of arms, hands, and baton. Another consideration is that particular sections of compositions demand more attention to the conductor than others, especially if there is a change in, for example, time signature. Soloists need to be cued, entire sections need "volume" control cues, etc. All in all, there is a lot more than meets the eye!

And you are right about the demand for "good musicians." The same is true for conductors. They are ALL pros!

Good question!

Any music similar to that of the last tracks on resident evil?

On the resident evil sound track Marilyn Manson composed some industrial horror symphony. I don't know what it's considered but is there any other artists out there like this?

I don't know about that, but if you like manson, you might wanna try:

Static X

Deftones

Disturbed

Nine Inch Nails

The band Electric Light Orchestra did a song called Fire on High which was like a rock symphony. Check it out.

Closest catergory I could put that type of music in that has any real following would be gothic. Lots of great synth, keybord, piano. etc. Some bands you might enjoy would be Tiamat %26amp; Mortiis (both male fronted) and Lacuna Coil %26amp; The Gathering (both female fronted). You can hear a few songs from The Gathering on their myspace page. http://www.nyx.net/~astoker/gothmusic.ht... has a large list of gothic bands with their websites listed.

Help!!! What is this Hip Hop basketball Warm Up Song?

I just went to my bros bball game and the other team had warmup music playing. The song started off really soft, almost like a symphony/orchestra type. Then, it dropped an incredible beat and turned out to be a hip hop instrumental. Does anyone know the title of this song?

I am exploring the realm of prog metal and would like some suggestions?

from people who are fans of the genre. I have been impressed with mudvayne, mastadon, and symphony x. I am also a huge fan of Tool and system of a down. So, some knowledgeable suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

What are some easy metal songs to play on guitar?

I've only been playing guitar for a month, and i like to play metal. A few songs that I can play pretty good are: Breaking the Law by Judas Priest, Am I Evil By Diamond Head, the intro to The Thing That should Not Be by Metallica, and Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth. I still can't play any of the solos though. If you know any metal songs that are fun and easy to play please tell me.

Akatsuki leader? I dont get it :( lots of photos?

mkay well i was trying to answer someone else's question (the same one as this one kinda) but i went to photobucket to get a picture and found this: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g227/g... it hasnt been in the actual manga yet, but it doesnt really look like fanart... but im totally against the 4th being the leader of the akatsuki, so i looked up more photos...http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u313/...

so if you look at the picture of the akatsuki leaders eyes, it doesnt look a thing like the eyes of the forth, plus if you look at the hair, it looks slightly different on the leader...so im hoping that illiminates the forth...then there's the theory of Madara (ran out of room, will post later)

The Leader being Manara or the Fourth Hokage are rumors by fans.

I thought the Third Kazekage was a good candidate until Sasori revealed that he was turned into a puppet.
There hasn't been any clear pic of the leader so far in the manga. He is still in the shadows so obviously no one knows who he is.

The rumours about his identity are all by fans and nothing is confirmed yet.

Personally, I don't really think it is Yondaime..but I think it might be someone related to Konoha since he knows things about their customs etc. At least that's what I got from reading the manga.

The pic of Madara that you posted, isn't it a fanfiction?..I am not entirely sure but I don't think we have ever seen Madara in the manga or the anime. I could be wrong though, I can't remember every detail..^^'.

As for the third Kazekage, someone already mentioned that Sasori turned him into a puppet. So he's definitely dead.

Well, the only thing we can do is speculate until Kishimoto decides to tell us.

Also, about Naruto's parents...nothing is really ever said, there are just many hints that Yondaime Hokage was his father. Personally, I'm 100% sure that he was. What I REALLY want to know is who his mother is..!
The Akatsuki leader does look like the fourth Hokage and he also looks like the 3rd Kazekage of the Sand Village that they never found the body of.
for some reason he's always in the shadow
Okay, what is up the 4th Hokage? The Akastuki leader is in shadows but they do look alike
I think the first link you posted is made up of pictures from the manga, than changed to make it look like it is saying something else. The Fourth would have to be evil to be the leader of Akatsuki, I don't think that is so...Maybe it's another completely unknown character with a little bit of familiar background, like that guy who was one of the guards of the fire Daimyo with Asuma then killed by Akatsuki for his bounty. But not one of them, maybe something else though.
